We approach the innovation project in 4 Stages :

Stage A – Project Objectives Definition

The purpose of this Stage is to deeply go into your Requirements and to develop a common understanding of your Constraints and Objective. During this step several aspects are analysed, such as, e.g. company Culture and Organization, Resources and General Constraints, Initial Status of the project, the Timeline for the project and its interrelationship with other activities that shall be synchronized within the company, and finally we develop the Objective Understanding Statement

The Objective Understanding Statement is formally defined in terms of Quantitative and Qualitative Success Criteria for the project that will be categorized, prioritised and used to monitor progress and evaluate the results. 

In this Stage we also define, together with you, the Company Project Tutor. He is a company manager that has direct interest in the project success and has enough highlight onto the organization and processes to support us.

This Stage is performed together with key members of your organization and a number of our senior consultants. It is structured in terms of one or few meetings aimed at brainstorming, deliberative strategic thinking down to the definition of the deliverables you want.

Stage B – Planning over ILG

Stage B is the project planning phase for which we adopt a proven methodologies that has been applied in several innovation contexts. The aim of this phase is to define the Objectives Implementation Target, to identifies the key technologies to be used, to develop the project plan, and to produce a structured reporting and proposal for your approval.

After agreed with you the Objectives Implementation Target (and its back-up option), the innovation problem is analysed and mapped onto a set of Landmark events to be achieved and their relationship, this constitutes what we call the Innovation Landmarks Graph (ILG).  Landmarks are key achievement of the innovation project that can be mandatory, optional, or intermediate ones. Their relationship are transition steps to move the project from one state (landmarks) to one of the subsequent.  

Over ILG the traditional mono-dimensional planning approach (i.e., the critical path or minimum time or resource plan) is extended to a multi-dimensional one. The generated plan is not a simple sequence of steps, but a network of possibilities and actions to be optimised at each stage. The developed tactic is ready at any time, if necessary, to adjust in order to comply with modifications of the surrounding conditions and/or with the overall strategy/objective.  This introduces the necessary robustness which lack is one of the major cause of innovation projects failure.

This Stage concludes with the project Kick-off Meeting where we present you a report usually consisting of:

  1. Objectives and Requirement Understanding Statements,
  2. SWOT Analysis Results,
  3. Project Solution, Schedule & Cost at Completion, and
  4. Project Cash Flow

Stage C – Implementation and control

This is the implementation cycle of the approach where the day by day actions are defined and pursued by the team. 

The higher level plan over ILG is detailed in a day/week level plan to be tracked. The project is controlled by monthly (or even weekly in critical phases) review with the Project Tutor. The review presents the accomplishments, the short term plans and allows for discussion of the Critical Item List. At the meeting end the Project tutor authorizes the proposed next steps of the projects.

We use a team based approach, usually we encourage a mixed team where our consulting resources and client's personnel are grouped in a core team. This has the advantage to:

  • jointly exploit the innovative background of the consultant together with the firm culture knowledge of the employee;
  • make the innovation project more acceptable for the organization;
  • perform a kind of training on the job of your resources that will be invaluable at the end of the project guaranteeing the sustainability of the results;
  • reduce the project cost

The Stage C is considered concluded when:

  • the objectives are achieved
  • the final review is successfully concluded
  • the post delivery plan is presented and agreed with you
  • the post delivery plan is in place.

Stage D – Post delivery Tune-up Reviews

The post delivery plan is the set of measures and actions to be implemented in order to guarantee the stability of the obtained innovation in your organization.

We provide one year post delivery support after the completion of your project to ensure the results are sustained. A set of Tune-up Reviews are planned to help you in manage changes that can endanger the results obtained during the project due to personnel changes, market change, processes modification, acquisitions or others.

Our senior consultants will visit your site to adjust and update the processes and procedures, provide additional training and make recommendations to enhance your results going forward.
